Description

Introduction

This module equips participants with the tools and methods needed to manage supplier relationships effectively over the long term and to transform contractual commitments into tangible performance drivers.

Participants will learn how to monitor, evaluate and develop supplier performance, while building stronger and more strategic partnerships. The programme also explores how artificial intelligence can support supplier relationship management by streamlining and optimising time-consuming tasks.

This module forms part of the programme Building Procurement Excellence: A 5-Step Development Framework.

Objectives

Upon completion of this module, participants will be able to:

  • Use the contract as an operational management tool.

  • Monitor and evaluate supplier performance in a structured manner.

  • Identify and manage supplier-related risks.

  • Integrate CSR requirements into the supplier relationship.

  • Measure and improve procurement value creation.

  • Understand the contribution of artificial intelligence to procurement management.

Programme
  1. Translating the contract into an operational management tool: Identifying and securing key clauses (SLA, deliverables, penalties, reversibility) to guarantee quality, compliance and adherence to timelines.

  2. Ensuring traceability and monitoring of commitments: Converting contractual documents into measurable KPIs to support performance reviews and non-conformity management.

  3. Mastering the supplier management lifecycle: Managing each stage, from initial screening and qualification through to supplier portfolio strategy development.

  4. Mapping and addressing supplier risks: Assessing criticality (product, market and logistics risks) and applying the appropriate response matrix (Reduce, Avoid, Accept or Transfer).

  5. Sustaining ethical and CSR commitments: Integrating ESG criteria (Environmental, Social, Governance) into control points and navigating the cultural and human dimensions of the relationship.

  6. Measuring impact and value creation: Defining relevant KPIs and designing dashboards to monitor the overall effectiveness of the procurement function.

  7. Outlook: Evolving the procurement function through AI: Using artificial intelligence to optimise and "augment" time-consuming tasks (supplier screening, RFx process, offer evaluation, contract analysis, risk monitoring).

Target audience

This training is aimed at anyone involved in procurement (purchasing) as part of their role, whether as a professional buyer or as a non-buyer responsible for managing service providers and suppliers. It is particularly suited to:

  • Procurement professionals at the beginning of their careers (junior buyers, category buyers, project buyers, contract managers, procurement officers),

  • HR, Finance, IT, and Operations teams, often directly involved in high-value procurement (e.g. recruitment agencies, payroll tools, IT services, external services),

  • Project managers, managers, assistants and technicians involved in sourcing suppliers, comparing offers, negotiating and contracting, who wish to acquire concrete tools.
